About Santa Lucia: Lucia celebration (13th of December)is truly a Swedish tradition that can be traced back to the Middle Ages even if the celebrations were a bit different then. At that time the Luca night was the longest night of the year and people believed it was the most dangerous of all nights. Unnatural beings and especially Lucifer, the devil, was out that night so you had to be really careful. People didn't go to sleep but stayed awake all night and to keep awake they prepared for Christmas.
Today we celebrate Lucia by dressing up in white dresses, light candles and sing traditional Lucia songs. We eat "Lussebullar", a special type of buns and we drink "Glögg". This traditional Swedish celebration has spread to our closest neighbours (Denmark, Norway and Finland) as well as by some people with Swedish ancestors in the USA.
